Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. The primary purpose of this book is to review the current state of transport policy and planning from a broad social science perspective. In particular, the aim is to give an up-to-date summary of the research which has been, and is being, carried…out into transport and public policy planning. The book is divided into two main parts. The first focuses on a statement of the present situation in transport. In a series of personal perspectives. key individuals outline the contribution of particular disciplines to the analysis of transport. Resources form the theme of the second section of Part 1. Within the context of an increasing energy resource constraint, the relationships between energy and transport are outlined. Alternative technologies are then covered, and here the debate is over whether the impact of new technology will actually result in travel substitution or stimulation of new activities. The final section of Part 1 examines the distributional effects of decisions and assesses the contribution of the social sciences to the analysis of transport problems. Part 2, the major part of the book, comprises a comprehensive survey of the methods which have been used in transport analysis. Throughout certain issues are emphasized, namely the development of methodologies, the variety of techniques which are available and the link between theory and practice. Throughout the book, contributors outline the current status of their particular topics, describe how this developed, and then proceed to a statement of where likely future directions will lead. As such, most papers include extensive references for the interested reader to follow up, and perhaps most important the language used is non-mathematical so that the concepts and issues will be accessible to all.(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
