Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. Compact hard-back book, cloth bound, with black titles on spine, comes with a nice original dust jacket. This lovely book is in good condition, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. First Edition, published by David and C…harles, 1970. 196 pages all intact and nice tight binding. All pages, text and illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. Set in 11/13 pt. Garamond and printed in Great Britain, by Bristol Typesetting Co. Ltd, for David and Charles Limited. A vivid detailed picture is given here of the period Coleridge and Wordsworth spent in the beautiful Quantock country-side in Somerset. The Somerset period was of major importance to Coleridge and Wordsworth as poets, particularly the year July 1797 to July 1798 that they spent near to each other. For Wordsworth the interlude was formative and decisive, giving him and English poetry a new direction. Much of his best work was written in the year immediately after his stay. For Coleridge it was a time when poetic genius was in full flower. Everyone of his greatest poems was written while he was in Somerset. Dorothy Wordsworth and Sara Coleridge also enter the story, and this lucidly written book in fact collates all the known information about this period of the poets' lives. It also adds another dimension, material derived from careful investigation of local sources, of the lives of local people, of their houses, of the walks and local scenery. An enchanting wee book.
