It doesn't mean it won't hurt during those times, as Mary indeed experienced. After all, God sacrificed his son for each of us. It caused pain and suffering in many ways for Jesus, his family, and his friends. During that time of despair, Jesus' family and friends could not see the big picture-not until they experienced Jesus' resurrection from the dead. Likewise, it is impossible for us to fully know why we experience various forms of grief, at least not at the time. What we do have is the promise of his return. At that point, we will experience pure joy.
