Hardback. Zustand: Good. Who Will Tell the People is a passionate, eye-opening challenge to American democracy. Here is a tough-minded exploration of why we're in trouble, starting with the basic issues of who gets heard, who gets ignored, and why. Greider shows us the realities of power in Washington today, uncovering the hidden relationships that link politicians with corporations and the rich, and that subvert the needs of ordinary citizens. How do we put meaning back into public life? Greider shares the stories of some citizens who have managed to crack Washington's Grand Bazaar of influence peddling as he reveals the structures designed to thwart them. Without naivet or cynicism, Greider shows us how the system can still be made to work for the people, and delineates the lines of battle in the struggle to save democracy. By showing us the reality of how the political decisions that shape our lives are made, William Greider explains how we can begin to take control once more.…

Zustand: very good, very good. First Edition. First Printing. 464, notes, index. In a provocative, thoughtful manifesto, Rolling Stone national editor Greider charges that America's two major political parties, unions, the press, and mass media no longer mediate between citizens and the powerful moneyed elites that control the political process. The result of this collective failure, he asserts, is a near-total breakdown of democracy. With hard-edged reporting, Greider shows how concerned citizens are regularly excluded from a meaningful political voice.…

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Hardcover. William Greider (1936-2019) was an American journalist and author who wrote primarily about economics. After several jobs as a reporter for Midwestern newspapers, he began working for The Washington Post in 1968, and then moved to Rolling Stone magazine (1982-1999), where he was a National Editor. He was also an on-air correspondent for Frontline on PBS. Greider's most well-known work is Secrets of the Temple: How the Federal Reserve Runs the Country (1987). In Who Will Tell the People, Greider addresses what he perceives as the failure of American politics and the faltering of the democratic process itself. He bases this on the realities of power in Washington and the corrupting links between politicians and corporations and the influence of corporate lobbyists. He is concerned that no one represents the people, and voters dismiss elections as meaningless. While this was written over 30 years ago, it certainly has a very contemporary relevance. Octavo. Light blue paper-covered board with dark blue cloth-covered spine. Title in gilt to spine. White dust jacket with title in blue to front and spine panels. Jacket has two small closed tears at top of spine panel, shows slight wear, and has a price sticker of rear panel. Pages are bright and clean. 464 pages, including index. POLSCI/7182.…
