Hardback. 1st Edition. THE WARS OF THE ROSESADAPTED FROM WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S HENRY VI PARTS I, II, III, AND RICHARD III BY JOHN BARTON IN COLLABORATION WITH PETER HALL FOR THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANYThe Wars of the Roses is a trilogy of plays adapted from the three parts of Shakespeare's Henry VI and from Richard III. The adaptation was conceived for a particular stage production by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-on-Avon, and was subsequently shown at the RSC's London theatre, the Aldwych, and on BBC television. The text is divided into the seventy-five scenes of the stage production. It shows clearly which is Shakespeare's original text and which was written for the adaptation by John Barton. Line references for the original text are given and it is thus possible to see at a glance exactly how much Shakespeare's text has been altered. There is an introduction by Peter Hall and an article by John Barton on how the adaptation came about. Michael Bakewell discusses the television production and John Bury, the designer, writes about the setting. There are full cast-lists and sixteen pages of plates from the production.John Barton is an Associate Director with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has produced many of their recent successes. He was formerly a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. Peter Hall was the Director of the RSC and is still actively concerned with the Company. Secondhand. Good Condition. Some scuffing and small tears on the dust jacket.
