These sayings were not always kept separate from the sayings of the historical Jesus. This has been a fairly common hypothesis among New Testament scholars. The distinctive feature of Professor Boring's work is that, for the first time, a comprehensive method is developed to attempt to identify such sayings in the gospels. Several sayings of the risen Jesus are identified. The phenomenon of Christian prophecy is traced through the gospels, and their varying responses to it are examined. The book is essentially a study of how the post-Easter Jesus continued to speak to his church through Christian prophets, and how this affected the developing traditions that eventually became the gospels.".
