Kenney approaches the ?De Rerun Natura? as literature and so concerns himself both with Lucretius? philosophy and his poetry, a fact reflected everywhere in the Commentary, but especially evident in the Introduction. Here such poetic elements as tone, structure, the satiric and the rhetorical as well as the various ?styles? of Book III are given special consideration. The text is Kenney?s own and he has relied primarily on Bailey?s reports of the manuscripts. (?) the Commentary attempts to ?disentangle and follow? the argument of the book as Lucretius ?intended it to be followed?, so the notes tend to fullness, and in some cases, a necessary redundancy. (?) This is a distinguished addition to the Cambridge Greek and Latin Series and will be the standard school text of Book III of the ?De Rerum Natura? for many years to come.? (VINCENT J.
