First edition. vii, 197pp. Nearly all the letters exchanged between the novelists Flaubert and Turgenev survive; and the correspondence provides an invaluable illumination upon the artistic credo of the two writers as well as revealin…g the exceptionally close nature of their relationship. The letters are important too for the views on contemporary writers, including George Sand, Zola and Maupassant. The 240 letters cover the years between 1863 to 1877. The book is bound in the original black boards with gold titling on the spine. The book is in excellent condition with very light bumping to the top of the spine and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with light shelf wear and slight fading to the spine. The spine ends are lightly bumped.
