He worked for the Daily Mail for ten years and The Sunday Times for twelve, ending his newspaper career on the Los Angeles Times. He won the Martin Luther King Memorial Prize in the UK for his first book, Because They're Black, and is the author of four other books on race relations and the administration of the law. He became involved in euthanasia with the publication in 1978 of jean' s Way, an account of how he helped his terminally ill wife to die, and followed this in 1981 with Let Me Die Before 1 Wake. - In 1980, in Los Angeles where he now lives, Derek Humphry was principal founder of the Hemlock Society, of which he is executive director. - Ann Wickett, who was born in Boston Mass., took an MA in English Literature at Toronto University and studied for a PhD at the Shakespeare Institute, Birmingham University. Co-founder of the Hemlock Society, she is also editor of its quarterly newsletter and The Euthanasia Review.
