Comedian, satirist, iconoclast, Cook was a leading figure of the British satire movement of the 1960s, first with Beyond the Fringe and with is long running partnership with Dudley Moore including the successful TV series Not Only, But Also. However there was an element of self destructiveness in Cook that led to alcoholism and decline, so that in his later years he rarely worked - he just couldn't be bothered.
