In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 1st Uk Edition. Hardback. H. G. Wells and Rebecca West. Wear and a couple of small tears to edge of D/J. For ten years, from the spring of 1913 to the autumn of 1923, Rebecca West for H. G. Wells 'the woman of my life'. When this love affair began Wells was a world-famous writer of forty-six and Rebecca West was twenty, but already showing literary talent and giving promise of a notable career. The relationship between them was never open. Wells kep up his family home, Easton Glebe, with his wife June, who was fully aware of the liaison, while Rebecca live a sub rosa wexistence in harassing, isolated and usually unhappy conditions. Their frequent separations stimulated their correspondence, and over 800 of Wells's letters survive, though he destroyed all but five of hers. Many years ago Rebecca West presented these letters to the Beinecke Library at Yale University, with the proviso that they should not be accessible till after her death. The publication of inadequate and incorrect accounts of this period in her life has led her to change her mind: and the letters have been made accessible to Dr. Gordon Ray. His record of those years makes a fascinating, stimulating and often profoundly moving tale. Illustrated. 215 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
