Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. Presumed First printing thus. 336, [2] pages. Maps. Diagrams. Illustrations. Footnotes. Index. This is an unabridged republication of the 1960 Rutgers University Press edition. Major-General John Frederick Charles "Boney" Fuller CB CBE DSO (1 September 1878 - 10 February 1966) was a senior British Army officer, military historian, and strategist, notable as an early theorist of modern armored warfare, including categorizing principles of warfare. With 45 books and many articles, he was a highly prolific author whose ideas reached army officers and the interested public. He explored the business of fighting, in terms of the relationship between warfare and social, political, and economic factors in the civilian sector. Fuller emphasized the potential of new weapons, especially tanks and aircraft, to stun a surprised enemy psychologically. In a brief and meteoric life (356-323 BC) the greatest of all conquerors redirected the course of world history. Alexander the Great accomplished this feat with a small army-no more than 40,000 men-and a constellation of bold, revolutionary ideas about the conduct of war and the nature of government. In a style both clear and witty, Fuller imparts the many sides to Alexander's genius and the full extent of his empire, stretching from India to Egypt. "Of all General Fuller's brilliant books, this is his masterpiece."--B. H. Liddell Hart. Fuller has divided this study into two parts. The first described the background of the era, Alexander's character and training, and the structure of the Macedonian army. The second section takes apart the great battles from Granicus to Hydaspes, and concludes with two final chapters on Alexander's statesmanship. In a style both clear and witty, Fuller imparts the many sides to Alexander's genius and the full extent of his empire, stretching from India to Egypt.
