First edition. vi, 314pp. Forbes Bramble (born 1939) is a British architect, author and playwright. This novel is set in Edinburgh in the 1780s, and is based around the double life of William Brodie (1741-1788), often known by his title of Deacon Brodie, who was a Scottish cabinet-maker, deacon of a trades guild, and Edinburgh city councillor, who maintained a secret life as a burglar in order to support his mistresses and to fund a gambling addiction. The book is bound in the original dark green boards with silver titling on the spine. The book is in excellent condition and the contents are tight and clean. The front free endpaper has been inscribed and signed by the author thus: "To Tom Sutherland - Forbes Bramble". The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with light shelf wear, and is in easily removed clear plastic protective cover. SIGNED COPY.
