Cloth. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Some of the many meanings of freedom, as the concept is applied by inidviduals to themselves and others, are explored with a new light and amusing touch by a brilliant new writer who uses languge with the care and precision of a craftsman. First - a cultivated egocentric with a penchant for young girls who absurdly considers making common cause with the erstwhile despised students in revolt for their confused idea of freedom, and who meets exposure at the hands of school-mistresses abroad to improve their French and appearing easy game to his urban, deluded conceit. Second - an unsuccessful, well-intentioned, pig-headed and 'socially conscious' schoolmaster who attempts to use, against all reason, the unintelligent, near delinquent son of a broken immigrant family to right, with a quixotic racial protest, the inequalities and prejudices as he sees them through a distorting idealism. He succeeds only in achieving his own destruction in the struggles of the protege to escape to his own freedom. Two born failure in our society whose character, weaknesses are dissected with fascination, humour and sympathy. Signed by Author(s).…
