Cloth. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Knightsbridge Woman. This book is a delightful account of a species, a district and a way of life. It is a tale of high spending, from Mary II, who had a standing order with her glove-maker for twenty-four pairs a month, to Caroline of Ansback, who built the Serpentine to improve the view. Espirit de classe prevails from Elizabeth Chudleight, the bigamous Duchess of Kingston, who threatened her bank manager with a loaded pistol, to the Nanny who commandered a Hyde Park bench with the words 'This bench is for titled Mummies' Nannies only'. From the brothel in Basil Stree to astute observations on the Parking Problem, Maria Perry's funny and affectionate stroll through three centuries of eccentricity provides a wealth of anecdote about the golden half mile and its colourful inhabitants.
