Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 'Dora' was the codename of the leader of a vitally important link in the Soviet intelligence network operating in Europe in the Second World War.Under cover of running a cartographical agency in Geneva, Radó was gradually able to build up a group which at its most effective in 1942 had three transmitters (called by the Germans 'Red Three') bombarding Russia with extraordinarily detailed information on German troop positions, movements and losses, the state of the armaments industry and strategic plans. The group's contacts ranged from Swiss Intelligence, Pétain's military intelligence, and the International Labour Office in Geneva, to the infiltration of the Wehrmacht high command itself. This latter coup was the work of the enigmatic Rudolf Roessler ('Lucy') and his chain of contacts in the army high command, the air force and the foreign office. Radó's group was able to provide the Russians with information which was a decisive factor in their eventual victory. His group flourished until late in 1943 when the 'Red Orchestra' leaf detachment finally tracked it down and its leader was forced underground."Ex military library stock so expect to see light wear and possible markings and annotations in the text.
