Hans Christian Andersen ; illustrated by Demi, Though the emperor banishes the nightingale in preference for a jeweled mechanical imitation, the little bird remains faithful and returns years later when the emperor is near death and no one else can help him. In a stately forest near the palace of the Emperor of China lived a nightingale with a glorious voice, but the Emperor never knew of her existence until books written by visitors to his city and palace praised her as the finest thing in his king-dom. She was then summoned to sing for the Emperor and given a place of honor at the court. This well-known and well-loved story of the nightingale and her subsequent banish-ment from the kingdom in favor of an artificial song bird encrusted with gems has been newly illustrated by Demi in jewel-like pictures. She brings to life the forest by the sea where the nightingale lived, the imperial palace made of price-less porcelain, and the glitter of the court. Pictured also are the Emperor in his splendid robes, the First Lord, the music master, and other members of the court in their shimmering attire, as well as the humble kitchen maid and the poor fisher-man who had enjoyed the nightingale`s song as they passed at night through the forest. They are pictures to enjoy, to savor, to treasure, and to go back to again and again. This is a book not for children alone, but one that will bring lasting delight to people of all ages. 14296 ISBN 0152574271 Aufgrund der EU-Verpackungsverordnung (PPWR) erfolgt der Versand nur nach Deutschland und ins Nicht-EU-Ausland.
