This is another paragraph Product Description: Caustic and cruel but effortlessly witty, Peter Cook was one of the most significant influences on British comedy in the last half-century as well as one of the prime architects of the satire boom of the 1960s. He achieved fame through the comedy sketch show Not Only But Also, where he starred alongside Dudley Moore. While the responsibility of being regarded as a comic guru could have weighed heavily upon his shoulders, the one thing Peter always refused adamantly was to take himself or his career seriously. Wendy E. Cook met Peter in the early 1960s; they soon married, and they lived together during the most explosive time in Peter's amazing career. But as Peter fell deeper into drinking, Wendy eventually moved away with their children, and later divorced her husband. Now, more than 30 years after their separation and more than a decade after his death, Wendy has broken her long silence. This is her take on the Peter Cook few have seen, and the life of one of Britain's most noted comedic geniuses.

Original publisherÕs black cloth spine lettered silver. White dust jacket with photographic illustrations lettered black and silver. Presentation copy: ÔTo dear Simon with deepest gratitude Love from Wendy.Õ Two friendly handwritten postcards one of Devon the other of Mallorca loosely inserted from Wendy Cook to Simon [Gough]. The first dated 19/Aug/06 and consisting of about 135 words returns a ÔtreasureÕ she came across while clearing out the attic Ð she confesses she finds it hard to read his writing but if it is no use to him sheÕll have it back. She then gives him details of the launch party for the book and hopes he and Sharon (his wife) can fit it in. The second dated 24/9/06 and consisting of about 65 words in which she says she is rather Ôgutted by the S. Times doing a News of the World job on the book.Õ She ends, ÔI think the book itself is quite balanced.Õ There are references to Gough in the book (he had an affair with Wendy Cook) which culminated in an episode in which Peter Cook broke GoughÕs jaw in two places (p. 276). Simon Gough (1942-2018), bookseller and writer was the son of the actor Michael Gough. Both Gough through his grand uncle Robert Graves and Wendy Cook who retreated there when her marriage was in difficulties spent time in Majorca.
