Erstausgabe
Paperback. Zustand: Very Good-. First Edition Thus; First Printing. Some reading and cover creases, some edge and shelf wear, remains of old price sticker with associated surface tear to front cover, some internal foxing. ; First printing of Fontana paperback edition with full number line, 1993. Nice tight copy, no names inside. ; Photographs; 272 pages; Autobiography of the former England cricket captain with an additional chapter added to the original hardback edition. An elegant left-handed batsman who in 114 Test matches scored over 8000 runs at an average of 44 which ranks him with the post-war greats. However his laid-back style and and "lack of application" often brought criticism. In the book, Gower answers these charges and sets out his side of the story about his two spells of captaincy for both club and country. He puts his man-management record on the line alongside those of fellow captains Mike Brearley, Bob Willis, Mike Gatting and Graham Gooch, and attacks the current mentality of Test selectors "where runs around the block seem to count for more than runs in the middle".
