Otto Muck was an Austrian engineer and inventor who spent much of his life assembling a physical case for the destruction of Atlantis. Working from Plato's account, he argues that an asteroid struck the Atlantic around 8500 BC, and marshals the Carolina Bays, deep-sea sediment cores, Gulf Stream behaviour, and the migration of the Atlantic eel as evidence for a lost mid-Atlantic landmass. Published posthumously in German in 1976 and issued in English two years later, it remains the most thoroughly engineered version of the Atlantis argument, and one of the more readable.
