Zustand: New. The exhibition Rhymes and Weeks includes two series of works created by Necmi Zekâ during the last two years. Both series equivalently explore visual and verbal possibilities while dealing with the central problematic of forming and working of images. The Rhymes series attempts to transform the image-reality dichotomy to yet another coincidental duality. Directing our attention from "imitation" to "pairing", it highlights the simultaneous proliferation and contraction potential of the image. The underlying logic of the series deliberately avoids meeting our expectations from both image and technique. Thanks to a literary intervention, it aims to open new areas of expansion and conflict for the meaning. The Weeks series, relying on a similar logic, makes use of a convention limited by the number seven and addresses the issue of sameness and difference. The series departs from the binding quality of time units such as day and week but places the practice of naming against this universal constancy. In doing so, the series points out the (un-)shared aspects of lived time, with an emphasis on the problem of repetiton and dissimilarity. Editors: Translator: 60 pages.
