Zadeh. 48 pp., with 25 four-color plates. 12 x 9 inches. This first edition was limited to 500 copies. New. From the publisher: "A quintessential artist's book, Drowned in a Dream comprises 25 photomontages by contemporary artist Susan A. Zadeh. Alternating between the slightly strange and fantastic, Zadeh's seductive and unsettling imaginary landscapes prerecord the soft submersion of Holland into the seas while also serving as a sort of personal diary. "Forever daydreaming . . . after 37 years of living in Amsterdam, it was about time to make this village mine," the artist writes. The result, an ongoing photographic series of more than 500 images, formed the source for Drowned in a Dream, the first monograph devoted exclusively to Zadeh's work. Persian by ancestry and birth, Zadeh moved to France as a child, and then to Holland as a teenager. She has lived in Amsterdam ever since. Originally trained as a classical dancer, after a 12-year career at the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam she turned to photography and publishing. Zadeh became well-known as a champion of outsider artists through her seminal art magazine "Eyemazing", which ran from 2002 to 2013 and which received a coveted Lucie Award. Since then, she has concentrated on her own work as an artist. Produced in Holland and beautifully printed on matt art paper, Drowned in a Dream is bound in raw printer's boards with an exposed spine. The first printing is limited to 500 slipcased copies, and is also available in a special edition with two signed original prints, and a deluxe edition with twelve signed original photographs printed by the artist." From the publisher: #9. Susan A. Zadeh: I : "Nazraeli Press published Susan A. Zadeh's first monograph, "Drowned in a Dream" to critical acclaim in Spring of 2019, and we are delighted to announce her first contribution to our One Picture Book Two series. Comprising ten self-portraits made specially for this book, "I" is an intimate, vaguely surreal take on a timeless approach to image making, with the artist herself as the subject. Since then, she has concentrated on her own work as an artist." #10. Daido Moriyama: Daido Moto: "Daido Moriyama has been photographing motorcycles on the streets of Tokyo for decades, and for his first contribution to our series One Picture Book Two, we asked him to select his favorite pictures of the subject. The result is Daido Moto. Printed full-bleed with double black ink, the eleven images comprising this book display the sleek, raw power of their subject. Born in Osaka, Japan in 1938, Daido Moriyama is one of the most influential photographers of his generation. His work is widely exhibited throughout the world, and he is the author and subject of literally dozens of books. Moriyama is known for his images depicting the contrast of traditional values and modern society in post-war Japan, and for his desire to utilize photography in "the fossilization of light"." #11. Leon Borensztein: Tata: "Leon Borensztein's powerful little book Tata (Polish for "Pappa") pays homage to his father, "Citizen M. Borensztein". Born in the Polish city of Mi sk Mazowiecki in 1912, M. Borensztein received his first military award in 1947. It was a Grunwald Badge, presented to him from the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army, for armed struggle against the Germans. He soon after received his second medal, for "Victory and Freedom". The pages of Tata turn to document the many other medals he received through the 1960s. As the list of commendations grows, so the accompanying photographs of the badges begin to feel heavier and almost claustrophobic. That is, until the final spread reveals a white shirt with a single medal. It was presented by The Ministry of Defense of the State of Israel to Mr. M. Borensztein in 1974, for volunteering in the Yom Kippur War. Leon Borensztein's photographs have been widely published and exhibited in the United States and abroad, and are included in the permanent collections of such institutions as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Art Institute of Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum." #12. Laurie Simmons: Instant Decorator: "Laurie Simmons began working on her "Instant Decorator" series in 2001. Based on an interior decorating book of the same name, published in 1976, it comprises works that are collage-like and opulently filled with accessories and characters in dramatic mises en scène. The images are at once aesthetically striking, playful, and loaded with hints and references. A Guggenheim Fellow, Laurie Simmons is the subject of numerous publications, and her work has been widely published and exhibited in the United S.…
