Illustrated in black and white throughout. Text in English (translated from the French by Ian Whittlesea). 1st English edition. First published in France by Grasset in 1954. Together with a business card (55 x 88mm, letterpress printed black and red on cream stock): a facsimile produced by Whittlesea of a card used by Yves Klein for his Judo Academy in Paris in the 1960s; and a flyer (99 x 209mm folded): an invitation to the launch of the book on 6 March 2009 at Donlon Books, London. Yves Klein studied judo in Japan before establishing his Judo Academy in Paris. At the time, he was the highest-grade black belt in all of Europe. On the verso of the English translation of Klein's treatise on judo, one pullquote from the artist and judo-master reads: 'Judo is, in fact, the discovery by the human body of a spiritual space'. Condition: book and business card in fine condition; some light handling marks to flyer; no tears or writing to any of the items. Overall: Near fine.
