Dated July 8, 1972, over a year before production commenced, and notably featuring the original ending with Bennie getting awayin true Peckinpah fashion, the director would later rewrite the ending to show Bennie dying in a shootout. With Peckinpah's brief annotations in manuscript ink on the title page and two leaves of the script. Warren Oates stars as Bennie, a bartender who travels through the Mexican underworld, accompanied by his sex worker girlfriend, to collect the bounty on the head of a gigolo. The only Peckinpah film not re-cut by the studio. Shot on location in Mexico. Yellow titled wrappers. Title page present, dated July 8, 1972, with credits for Peckinpah and screenwriter Gordon Dawson. 128 leaves, with last page of text numbered 126. Xerographic duplication, rectos only.
