High SCE encourages the use of non-motorized transport and reduces transport-related energy consumption. In this book, mobile phone location data is employed to assess journey-to-work trips and explore spatial variations in SCE at multiple geographic scales. It finds that SCE is significantly higher in the suburbs than that in the central urban areas and tends to decrease as the spatial analysis unit shifts from the macro to the micro scale.The relationship between Jobs-housing balance is found to be more important in self-containment of employment for secondary-sector workers compared with that for tertiary-sector workers. Secondary-sector workers tend to reside near their workplaces because of relatively balanced jobs and housing, whereas tertiary-sector workers tend to reside farther away from their workplaces to save housing cost.A mixed-use index (MUI) in terms of employment is examined. Obwohl für Unternehmen der Umgang mit Risiken schon immer eine enorme Rolle gespielt hat und sie über umfassende Erfahrung auf diesem Gebiet verfügen, war es bis vor kurzem so, dass das Wetter als potentielle Gefahr in ihren Risikoüberlegungen kaum Be-rücksichtigung fand. Eine Erklärung dafür ist, dass das Klima als eine unbeeinflussbare Größe galt. Mit dieser Einstellung im Hinterkopf wurden schlechte Ertragsergebnisse, verursacht durch ungünstige Wetterbedingungen, als natürlich angesehen und teilweise offenbarte sich diese Tatsache sogar als passende Ausrede für niedrige Umsätze und hohe Ausgaben. In den letzten Jahren hat sich aber herausgestellt, dass das Klima sich in einem Wandel befin-det und mit ihm die ganze Welt. Begriffe wie Treibhauseffekt, CO2-Emmision, Weltklima-konferenz und Kyoto-Protokoll kennzeichnen das Spannungsverhältnis, in dem sich wissen-schaftliche Erkenntnisse, politische Ziele und ökonomische Interessen in Zeiten der verstärk-ten Wetterempflindlichkeit befinden. Wirtschaftlich gesehen vollzog sich der Wandel insofern, dass inzwischen klimatische Ein-flüsse auf die unternehmerische Tätigkeit sehr groß geworden sind und eine Außerachtlassung bestandsgefährdende Tendenzen haben könnte. Es folgten die ersten Überlegungen, wie Ge-fahren dieser Art entgegengesteuert werden kann. Als Reaktion kam es zur Entwicklung von speziell auf Wetterausprägungen bezogenen Absicherungsinstrumenten, die Risiken aus unerwarteten Wetterentwicklungen ins betriebliche Risikomanagement integrieren konnten.
