Textbook with summary of knowledge to date followed by series of definitions and problems to solve. 6 plates featuring "Improved Orrery", astronomical instruments, examples of spheres and movements.; 6 folding plates; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 364 pages.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No date (mid 19th century). Half bound in dark leather with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled boards. 225 x 279 x 56mm. A strange and somewhat inexplicable volume, containing various items, apparently incomplete, bound together as one. The bulk of the volume is the 'People's Gallery of Engravings', with numerous b/w engravings plus corresponding text pages. These appear to be taken from Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 of the works edited by the Rev. G. N. Wright, though there is no full title-page or contents table. Some pages are from the 'Gallery of Scripture Engravings', though again there is no contents table and the work is undoubtedly incomplete. An incongruous scientific journal from 1846 forms the concluding part of the volume, including index and fold-out diagrams. Leather edges and marbled boards very lightly worn, but cover generally well-preserved; internal contents slightly discoloured and with a little foxing (very minor for the most part, but heavier on a couple of plates); binding secure throughout. W Turner and George Cruikshank's illustrative depictions of Scotland and scenes from the Waverley novels, with descriptions from the Rev. G. N. Wright. Bound in half calf with moire cloth to the boards. Very scarce work. In two volumes. Dated using Jisc from copies of the work held at the British Library. This artistic endeavour presents historical landscape illustrations of different scenes described in Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels, such as The Pass of Bally-Brough, The Death of Porteus, Inverlochy Castle, and many others. Illustrated with nineteen plates and a frontispiece to Volume I and forty-three plates to Volume II. This works should contain ninety plates, some of which contain two illustrations. Lacking twenty-eight plates across the set.With an extra plate entitled 'The Rescue of Ivanhoe' to page 7 of Volume II, not mentioned in the list of illustrations.Illustrations are taken from drawings by J. M. W Turner, as well as a number of other contributors, with comic illustrations by notes Victorian illustrator, George Cruikshank. With descriptions by the Rev. G. N. Wright, to accompany each illustration. Bound in half calf with moire cloth to the boards. Externally, very smart, with light marks to boards and a little fading. Bookplate to front paste down.
