Vintage photograph of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, gossip columnist Elsa Maxwell, and producer Mike Todd at the premiere of Todd's 1946 Broadway play, held at the Booth Theatre in New York on January 9, 1946. Stamp of Michael Todd Production on the verso. Over the course of his short career in show business, Todd worked as a producer for theatre and film, most notably producing the 1956 Academy Award-winning film "Around the World in 80 Days." He is perhaps best remembered now as Elizabeth Taylor's third husband, the only one whom she did not divorce (Todd died in a plane accident a year after their marriage). 8 x 10 inches. An example of Wright's organic architecture, the Clinton Della Walker house is Wright's only house that overlooks the ocean, here viewed from the structure's east side, overlooking Carmel Bay. Designed by Wright in 1948 for Mrs. Clinton Della Walker, who said she wanted a house "as durable as the rocks and as transparent as the waves," it was built by Miles Bain and completed in 1951. When approached from the west, the house has the appearance of the prow of a ship jutting out from Carmel Point's rocky shoreline. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The home was featured as the beach house in the 1959 film "A Summer Place," directed and written by Delmer Daves, and starring Richard Egan and Dorothy McGuire. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.
