Robbins, who would go on to direct the film with Robert Wise, served as choreographer and came up with the original concept of a modern musical update of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Winner of ten Academy Awards, the most ever for a musical, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for George Chakiris, and Best Supporting Actress of Rita Moreno.
