Zustand: Very good. - Over 35 words penned on 9 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide creamy white paper. In a few brief words addressed to "My Dear Eugene Field", Jefferson exclaims about Field having "secured more of the 'Jeffersons'" and proclaims, quoting a line from Shakespeare, "I think I hear you exclaim with Macbeth: 'Will the line stretch out to the Crack of Doom?" Signed "J Jefferson". The edges are roughly cut, else near fine. A wonderful and playful association. The American actor Joseph Jefferson (1829-1905) was one of the most famous of the 19th century American comedians and is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of Rip Van Winkle. Jefferson spent nearly every season from 1880 to 1903 performing in Chicago at McVicker's and subsequently the Powers Theatres. There, he would often perform in "Rip Van Winkle", "The Rivals" and "The Cricket on the Hearth".The American author, Eugene Field (1850-1895), was best known for his children's poetry and humorous essays.
