Portraitserie des amerikanischen Künstlers von dem deutschen Model Helga Testorf, die zwischen 1971 und 1985 enstand. Testorf lebte in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft des Künstlers in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Wyeth (1917-2009) war einer der bekanntesten amerikanischen Maler seiner Zeit und in den USA überaus populär. Er hatte sich ganz der realistischen Malerei verschrieben, sein Stil bildete aber Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts einen großen Kontrast zur vorherrschenden Abstraktion und war lange Zeit umstritten. Viele Kunstkritiker lehnten seine Werke ab und bezeichneten sie als sentimentale Illustrationen. Die Helga Pictures zeigte der Künstler während ihrer Enstehungszeit niemand, nicht einmal seiner Frau. 1986 wurden sie verkauft und erstmals öffentlich ausgetellt. Sie erregten großes Aufsehen, führten aber auch zu Spekulationen über eine Affäre des Malers mit seinem Modell. Sprache: de.

Occasioned by an exhibition ath the National Gallery of Art, Washington, May 24-September 27, 1987 and the Detroit Institute of Arts, November 13, 1988-January 22, 1989. - - - The wonderful Helga Pictures are a series of more than 268 paintings and drawings of German model Helga Testorf created by American artist Andrew Wyeth between 1971 and 1985. In 1986, Philadelphia publisher and millionaire Leonard E. B. Andrews (1925-2009) purchased almost the entire collection, preserving it intact, later selling it to a Japanese company. Wyeth had already given a few Helga paintings to friends, including the famous Lovers, which had been given as a gift to Wyeth's wife. The works were exhibited at the National Gallery of Art in 1987 and in a nationwide tour. There was extensive criticism of both the 1987 exhibition and the subsequent tour for being "voyeuristic", and the show has been labeled "the most polarizing National Gallery exhibition of the late 1980s".
