In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition, First Printing. Square 8vo. Softcover / Pamphlet format. A rare and fascinating time capsule of Enlightenment-era scientific discovery, compiling several landmark papers read before the Royal Society between March and October 1745. The Headline Work: Sir William Watson's foundational treatise, "Experiments and Observations tending to illustrate the Nature and Properties of Electricity" (47pp). Watson was one of the premier pioneers of electrical science; this extensive letter to President Martin Folkes outlines his early breakthrough experiments with static electricity, tracking atmospheric conditions, and his famous feats of igniting spirits of wine via "repulsive power". With a Marvelous Array of Accompanying 18th-Century Papers: Beyond the electrical treatise, this issue contains an incredibly eclectic mix of early medical, meteorological, and agricultural papers, including: • Medicine: "A Proposal to Bring Small Passable Stones Soon and with Ease Out Of The Bladder" by the celebrated physiologist Rev. Stephen Hales, proposing a revolutionary mucilaginous catheter treatment for bladder stones. • Materials Science: "Account of Some Experiments Lately Made in Holland Upon the Fragility of Unannealed Glass Vessels" (an early study on Bologna phials and structural glass fragility). • Meteorology: "Concerning a Fiery Meteor seen in the Air on July 14th 1745" by Rev. Geo Costard. • Agriculture & Botany: Papers by Rev. Henry Miles on improving Cyder and Perry, and Benjamin Cook's observation on how cross-pollination ("Farina of the Blossoms") alters the fruit of neighbouring apple trees. • Local History & Curiosities: Henry Baker on the Ancient Bridewell prison at Norwich, and an account of a dramatic sinkhole ("Sinking Down of a Piece of Ground") at Horseford in Norfolk. Condition Report: Very Good. Housed in a clean, modern softcover wrap/binding with some expected light discolouration and age-toning to the text block edges. Internally exceptional: pages are notably clean, crisp, and bright, remaining entirely free of heavy foxing or damp staining. A beautiful, uncommonly well-preserved survivor of early British scientific printing.…
