In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Fine. HMS Gannet, beautifully restored today at Chatham Historic Dockyard, is a fine example of the small 'colonial schooners' that were built and deployed in the second half of the nineteenth century to police Britain's great empire and enforce the peace of Pax Britannica. Launched at Sheerness in 1878 with her white Mediterranean livery and elegant clipper bow, she was the epitome of the colonial gunboat. In this new book by the well-known ship modeller Will Mowll, the design and history of _Gannet_ is outlined before the author takes the reader on a detailed photographic step-by-step exposition of the building of his 1/48 scale model of the ship. A particular feature of the model is the inclusion of the 2-cylinger compound steam engine with its three cylindrical boilers. Exquisitely detailed, with even the bunkered coal beautifully modelled, all the machinery is made visible by means of the removable deck. The author has therefore reconstructed a major feature of the ship which is no longer extant on the prototype at Chatham. All the information that a ship modeller might need is included here-hull construction and the coppering of the ship's bottom, the making of the ship's steam propulsion systems, the decks and decking, armament, steering gear, mast and yards and rigging, and even the furniture in the wardroom. No part of the ship is left hidden. Inspiring with the sheer quality of his workmanship, the author has brought beautifully to life another of Britain's great museum ships.

In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. Focusing on the working model of HMS Warrior, this book explains in detail all the materials, skills and techniques needed for miniature replication. The Warrior embodies a variety of shipmodelling skills, as she incorporates a myriad of characteristics; steam and sail propulsion and laid decks. The working model was constructed on the traditional shipbuilder's scale of 1:48, and embodies all the varied skills which a shipmodeller requires to construct a first-class scratch-built ship. Warrior, designed during a period of rapid change in the world's navies, incorporates a myriad of characteristics for the modeller - an iron hull, laid decks, both steam and sail propulsion, a hoisting propeller, lowering funnels, a mass of both conventional and breach-loading ordnance, a traditional figurehead and gilded galleries, and a whole array of ship's boats. Equally varied are the materials and skills required to build such a complex vessel. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

His unique perception endowed his sensuous experiments in pattern and textures, in atmosphere and light with a stature achieved by few artists. Working in the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first several decades of the twentieth, he perfected his distinctive style, becoming one of the great colorists of all time. This major reappraisal contributes a wealth of new scholarship. Based on letters, sketchbooks, contemporary articles and reviews, it also brings to life an exciting and pivotal era, for Prendergast was in the forefront of modern painting in America. He exhibited as one of The Eight, becoming known as one of the "Red Hots, " and participated in the Armory Show. His experiences, including living and working in Europe, allowed him to draw on a wide variety of sources - including Cezanne, Signac, the Renaissance Italian painter, and Watteau. Out of these he created his own truly unique idiom." ; VG. Book.
