4to., [viii], 52pp., extreme lower outer corner of title page chipped, some old light soiling to foot of title page and and to some extreme outer margins, bound in modern marbled wrappers, otherwise a VG copy of this scarce seventeenth century play. The authorship of this play is uncertain. The dedication is signed by Mountfort, although he does not claim the play as his work. It was included in his collected plays on the assumption that he had had something to do with it. Gildon in his "The Lives .of the English Dramatick Poets" attributes it to John Bancroft, d.1696. (Wing B634; Macdonald: Dryden Bibliography, 125).

Cast Lists to second and third plays. Contemporary ink initials to ffep. The last play (Cartwright 1651) has occasional contemporary handwritten ink notes (and decorative scrolls) throughout, some illegible. It has also been trimmed rather tight to top and foredge with slight loss to top word of title page and to some of the handwritten notes at the foredge. Occasional light foxing and browning to pages, particularly second and fourth plays. Some light wear and rubbing to spine and boards with small areas of scuffing to top surface of calf at lower edge (please see photos). Overall a Good+ Copy. This is one volume of a large collection of uniformly bound mainly 18th century collections of plays (generally 4 or 5 per volume) from the collection of the Vaughan Jenkins family of the Manor of Priston in Somerset. They were mostly bought at the time of publication in London (c.1713 - 1765, but some as early as 1655) and uniformly bound. Many of the volumes have the initials MCJ (Mary Caroline Jenkins, 1731-1790) or ED (Elizabeth Davis, nee Jenkins, 1736-1810) who were the daughters of Elizabeth Jenkins (1712-1766) and William Jenkins (1688-1774), who became Lord of the Manor of Priston in 1757 when the family moved from London. These books all remained at Priston until being inherited by the uncle of the vendor of the collection.
