No Binding. Zustand: Near Fine. Rare political squib issued during the celebrated Northumberland Parliamentary Election of 1826. A satirical verse attacking supporters of Henry Thomas Liddell, presented as a humorous betting conversation in which a supporter confidently wagers one hundred guineas against one that Liddell will he…ad the poll before withdrawing on the grounds that "There is a flaw in the indictment". The poem concludes with partially disguised names, a common device in Georgian political satire. Printed as a single-sheet broadside and reprinted by S. Wilkinson of Morpeth during one of the most fiercely contested county elections of the late Georgian period. Election satires of this nature were intended for temporary use and survive far less frequently than formal candidate addresses. Single sheet, 17.9 x 22.4 cm. Condition: Near fine. Fold creases. Light handling wear only. Strong impression and excellent legibility. Scarce Northumberland election ephemera.
