Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. PHOTOGRAPHY A COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS AN APERTURE BOOK 1969 HC DJ. This small hard cover book has some important features which distinguish it. It was published in 1969 in the early days of the struggle to see photography accepted as examples of fine art. The collection was assembled at the behest of the Exchange National Bank of Chicago as part of its Permanent Collection and the Bank s "commitment to Chicago as a great cultural center." The collection was curated by Beaumont and Nancy Newhall who were also pioneers in bringing photography to the forefront among the visual arts. Please find then: "A Collection of Photographs" with a brief Introduction by Minor White. This medium-sized but slender hard cover book (8 ½ x 10 inches unpaginated but I estimate about 120 pages) was published as an Aperture Book dated 1969 and a probable First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in matte black boards with silver gilt titles on cover and spine and protected by a glossy pictorial dust jacket featuring one of the prints of the collection. Please see the list of the 43 Photographers presented for your further information. There are brief biographies prepared by the Newhalls for each of the artists presented. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some edge wear along the top edge including small tears and chips and also some light scuffing along the gutter. The hard covers are clean but with a narrow band of fading along the top edge where the wrinkled dust jacket left them exposed. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
