Lovely copy in original green cloth with elaborate blind stamped borders and designs to covers and gilt garlanded titles to spine with a small cameo portrait of "the widow" at the crown of spine. Square and snug; original yellow endsheets. Publishers 4 pp catalog of ads at rear. Page stock bright and supple. Wood cut plates toning just slightly. An unusual aspect of this copy is the plate opposite page 82, which unlike the other plates is not bound in but tipped on to the spine side margin of page 83. Clot at spine a bit crimped and corners just a little bruised. All around a splendid copy of this early, though posthumous collection of Whitcher's highly regarded humorist and satirical work. VG+ Uncommon in condition.
