This work is the outcome of a symposium held at The Zoological Society of London in June 1973 which focussed on the Hystricomorpha, the rodent suborder comrptising the guinea-pig, chinchilla, coypu, porcupine and about 180 other species living mainly in South America and Africa. Detailed asnatomical and endocrinological studies show the internal diversity of the group, and a series of papers draws attention to its interesting reproductive physiology.
