Translation first published in 1965 of Weber's Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. - Published for the first time in 1904-1905, the work of Max Weber was very little known in Italy in the period immediately following. Only after the First World War, Die Protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus also began to affect our culture. And the interest has grown in the last twenty years in which the studies of Weber have multiplied. The work has its own unique place in the vast literature on capitalism, the "capitalist spirit" and especially about their origins, which includes literature scholars such as Troeltsch, Sombart, Brentano, and Tawney, Italy, Fanfani and others. The peculiarity of the Weber lies in having called attention to the interrelationships between sets of facts "that seem, on the contrary, by their very nature repugnant or, at least, foreign and distant, just as among the religious spirit and spirit and activities economic "(Sestan).
