Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 214 pp. + ca. 164 leaves comprising the facsimile, with numerous color drawings and engravings; thick folio (12 x 9 in.), quarter burgundy morocco, gilt title on spine, burgundy cloth sides, Walpole's arms stamped in gilt on the covers; t.e.g. Strawberry Hill, the home of Horace Walpole, a writer (…and inveterate letter writer), art historian and antiquarian, embodied his taste and vision as reflected in its furniture, pictures and curiosities. The facsimile contained in this volume is of one of only six large-paper copies of his "gothic manifesto." It describes Strawberry Hill and its contents and is enhanced by numerous watercolor illustrations, every then-known print of Strawberry Hill, and several engraved portraits of Walpole and his circle. A handsome production, with the extensive background text portion printed letterpress. A near fine copy; small light bump to the top corner of some center leaves of the book; otherwise fine.
