Wraps. Zustand: Very good. 35, [1] p. Illustrated. Bibliography.Project Gemini was NASA's second human spaceflight program. It was a United States space program that started in 1961 and concluded in 1966. Project Gemini was conducted between projects Mercury and Apollo. The Gemini spacecraft carried a two-astronaut crew. Ten crews flew low Earth orbit (LEO) missions between 1965 and 1966. It put the United States in the lead during the Cold War Space Race against the Soviet Union. Its objective was to develop space travel techniques to support Apollo's mission to land astronauts on the Moon. Gemini achieved missions long enough for a trip to the Moon and back, perfected working outside the spacecraft with extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and pioneered the orbital maneuvers necessary to achieve space rendezvous and docking. With these new techniques proven by Gemini, Apollo could pursue its prime mission without doing these fundamental exploratory operations. The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the third United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which accomplished landing the first humans on the Moon from 1969 to 1972. First conceived during Dwight D. Eisenhower's administration as a three-man spacecraft to follow the one-man Project Mercury which put the first Americans in space, Apollo was later dedicated to President John F. Kennedy's national goal of "landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth" by the end of the 1960s, which he proposed in an address to Congress on May 25, 1961. Project Mercury was followed by the two-man Project Gemini (1962-66). The first manned flight of Apollo was in 1968.Kennedy's goal was accomplished on the Apollo 11 mission when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed their Lunar Module (LM) on July 20, 1969, and walked on the lunar surface, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the Command/Service Module (CSM), and all three landed safely on Earth on July 24. Five subsequent Apollo missions also landed astronauts on the Moon, the last in December 1972. In these six spaceflights, twelve men walked on the Moon. The Y-12 National Security Complex is a United States Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration facility located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, near the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It was built as part of the Manhattan Project for the purpose of enriching uranium for the first atomic bombs. In the years after World War II, it has been operated as a manufacturing facility for nuclear weapons components and related defense purposes. Title from cover. Presumed first edition [may not be first printing].

Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. The format is approximately 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches. 120 pages. Illustrations. More often sacked and ravished than any other city thanks to the attentions of its southern neighbor, Edinburgh's fluctuating fortunes have seen it change from being host to ambassadors from all over Europe as Scotland's capital under James VI, to becoming a capital of the mind once Crown and Parliament had departed to London. Edinburgh generated the vitality of the Scottish Enlightenment and for a time became the intellectual center of Europe. Romantic and picturesque, Edinburgh "Genius locii" was exemplified in the works of Scott and Burns. In the 19th century Edinburgh came to be characterized by its professions and the fame acquired in the ranks of the law, medicine, architecture and the kirk. Today it is the fourth largest economic center in Europe. The author reveals the unfamiliar Edinburgh - the history and character of a unique European city. This guide is organized as a series of walking tours: The Royal Mile, The Cowgate to Tollcross, The South Side, The New Town, The Eastern New Town, The Northern New Town, and The Western New Town. Many decades have passed since this edition was published, and thus this becomes not only a snapshot of the broader city areas during the last quarter of the Twentieth Century, but also a baseline against which to identify, measure, and/or evaluate the changes since that time. Third Edition [stated]. Presumed first printing thus.
