In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. A. Wainwright (illustrator). First edition. A first edition of this collection of illustrations based on early photographs of the market town Kendal, Westmorland and Furness. First edition. Illustrated with one hundred and thirty numbered drawings based on historical photographs. Dedicated to the memory of the first men in Kendal with cameras, exploring the original early efforts to visualize the town as is was in Victorian times. This work is an attempt to preserve a representative collection of the old and now vanished scenes by conversion of selected photographs into a uniform series of pen drawings. Illustrated by Alfred Wainwright, who preferred to be known as A. Wainwright or A.W., a British fellwalker, guidebook author, and illustrator. With commentary and research from John Marsh, an English historian who contributed to an understanding of Kendal and South Lakeland heritage. Presented to Peter J. Ellery on his eightieth birthday from his friends in the choir of Kendal Parish Church, 30th March 1980. In the original imitation morocco binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and creasing to the extremities. Minor sunning to the spine and panel edges with small closed tears. Two 1" closed tears to the front panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Gift sticker to the front endpaper. Near Fine. book.
