Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Reprint. 2 vol. 8vo. [5], vi-x, [1], 2-480, [2]; [3], iv-xc, [1], 2-458, [2] pp. Half navy calf over marbled boards with the spines in six compartments, a red morocco label and a purple leather label lettered in gold on each spine; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Volume one with a frontispiece, a facsimile of one of Junius' letters. To which are added his confidential correspondence with Mr. Wilkes, and his private letters to Mr. H.S. Woodfall. With new evidence as to the author ship, and an analysis by the late Sir Harris Nicholas. Encyclopedia Britannica, "Junius: English author". Junius was the pseudonym of an English author who contributed numerous articles to the newspaper Public Advertiser. His letters were marked by bitter sarcasm and caustic mockery of several noblemen and of King George III. This resulted in a libel suit against the Public Advertiser which the Advertiser won, marking an important moment in the history of the free press. The authorship of these letters is still a mystery today, but the impact Junius had on British politics and journalism remains significant. A Very Good set with moderate wear to the extremities and a faint odor of tobacco.
