Buch
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - W. E. B. Du Bois was editor and principal author of The Negro Church, first published in 1903. A groundbreaking study, this volume is the first in-depth treatment of African-American religious life. It is the first sociological book on religion in the United States. It is the first empirical study of religion conducted by Black scholars. It is a landmark historical text on African-American religion and mores of a century and more ago. A new introduction provides the contextual backdrop for understanding the religious scholarship and faith of Du Bois. The appearance of this text for a new generation of students, scholars, researchers, and communities of faith is cause to celebrate. Recognition of The Negro Church is long overdue and justly deserved.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Pamphlet. Octavo. Single sheet folded once to form four pages. Very good with tiny stain on one corner, some general wear and a vertical crease, likely from being folded for mailing. Prints details about the charges made against DuBois and his associates at The Peace Information Center, and solicits donations of time and/or money in their defense. On February 16, 1951 DuBois was arrested for operating as the unregistered agent of a foreign power, because of his involvement with a group called the Peace Information Center, of which he was chairman. Also indicted were Sylvia Soloff, Kyrle Elkin, Elizabeth Moos, and Abbott Simon. Their "crime," the U.S. government claimed, was that "they wrote and spoke about peace and war and the effects of war and certain weapons of war. and in doing this prove themselves to be agents of a foreign power." Ultimately the trial judge threw out the case, and DuBois went on to write about his experiences in *In Battle for Peace: The Story of My Eighty-Third Birthday* (1952). Uncommon. *OCLC* locates two copies of this pamphlet.
