In den WarenkorbOriginal Red Cloth Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1910. Firsat edition. viii, [i], [i], 288pp., 12 black and white plates and a folding chronological table showing principal event and officers 1862-1905. This is a scarce record of the work of the Submarine Mining Service from 1863 up to the start of the 20th century. From earliest times it has been the business of Military Engineers not only to manipulate the engines of war, but also to improve and supplement them. One of these improvements was an adaptation of a system of defence by land mines to the peculiar needs of a fortress bordering on the sea, and it is this that the book is concerned with. After various historical chapters, the book includes sections on Homes of the Submarine Miners; Personnel; Submarine Mining in India; Submarine Mining in the Colonies; Methods of the Submarine Miners; and Other Works Done by Submarine Miners. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold emblem on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The corners are lightly bumped and there is heavier bumping to the spine ends with a little damage to the cloth at the bottom of the spine. The spine is faded with some light staining and there is a bit more noticeable staining around the bottom spine corners of both boards. The contents are tight and clean with a namer and date written on the front free endpaper and a bookplate on the front fixed endpaper. PLEASE NOTE: Expensive book so a little extra may be needed for signed for shipping to non-UK customers.…
