In den WarenkorbStunningly beautiful wooded landscape with a castle on top of a hill at the right. Although the drawing is unsigned, it has been authenticated by a leading expert on 17th-century Dutch art: Egbert Haverkamp Begemann, John Langeloth Loeb professor emeritus at New York University's Institute of Fine Arts, formerly of the department of prints and drawings at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York and professor of art history at Yale University. On the back is a sketch of a similar landscape, apparently by the same artist. In very good condition, with the paper slightly thin in places and reinforced along the edges. Under glass in a black and gold wooden frame. Landscape drawing in black chalk(?) and white chalk on paper.
Portrait of Maerten Harpertsz. Tromp (1598-1653), aged 42, in an oval, with two angels playing trumpets. Beyond the bells of the instruments is the inscription: 'TROMP'.Below the portrait is a bird's-eye view of the naval battle at Duinkerke in which Admiral Tromp played a creditable role.Inscribed around the frame: 'M.H.TROMP L'ADMIRAEL VAN HOL-/LANDT EN WEST-VRIESLANDT. AET 42 / A. 1640.' According to van Someren, this plate was modified in later years: the portrait was slightly changed according to the ageing of the sitter along with the figures of the age and date of publishing, namely 50 and 1648.In this state, the plate shows inscriptions on the three views on the seabattles. On the left: 'Slagh bij Duynkerken', on the right: 't'In taghen in Duyns', at bottom: 'Slagh Int wt loopen van Duyns.'.Artists signature on either sides of the portrait": 'S. D. Vlieger pinx. / Cornelis van Dale scul.' On the bottom left corner, on a piece of wood floating on the water: 'V. Velde.'Text below missing.[NL] Slag bij Duinkerken en Duyns. Admiraal Maarten Tromp. Engraving and etching on paper, trimmed within platemark: total: 391 x 306 mm; state V(?)/5, some light foxing, especially visible on the verso; mounted on a sheet of paper.
