Part one mainly deals with the terminology historical development of seed testing and seed health testing objectives of seed health testing etc. Part second provides a comprehensive account of information on the techniques used for the detection of seed born fungi bacteria viruses viroids and nematod. The techniques hereby dealts include conventional methods such as examination of dry seeds seed soak and washing test culture tests infectivity test seedling symptom test histopathology and molecular techniques such as immunoassays and nucleic acid base techniques. The procedures such as non destructive seed assays estimation of fungal metabolites gel electrophoresis size selective sieving computer image analysis not used on routine basis have also been discussed. In addition a chapter on methods for the estimation of fungicides on treated seeds is also being discussed. 554 pp.

This book is being published for those who are interested in growing processing and trading of medicinal plants as herbal drugs. The importance of medicinal plants in India has been increasingly recognized by agriculturalists and pharmaceuticals during past two decades. During the past decade demand for medicinal plants and its products has attracted the worldwide interest India being the treasure house of biodiversity accounts for 8000 species which are used in 10 000 herbal drugs. Ninety percent of herbal industry's requirement of raw material is taken out from the forests resulting in to the ruthless exploitation and destruction of its natural habitats. Thus to take pressure off from natural forest the medicinal plants have been brought under cultivation to enhance their conservation. Cultivation o.
Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. Contents: 1. Introduction. 2. Selection of seed production area. 3. Crop management. 4. Seed Treatment. 5. Seed certification. 6. Plant quarantine. 7. Disease resistance. Glossary. References. Appendix. Subject Index. A major concern of farmers since crop cultivation has been procurement of good quality seed for planting. It was considered essential since seed is the basic input for crop production and this was very well documented during late 1960s and early 1970s by using seeds of high yielding varieties coupled with improved agronomic practices in case of wheat and rice which resulted in green revolution. These days there are further attempts to increase the productivity through improving the quality of seeds by molecular breeding programmes. However, there are always chances of seeds with characteristics of high yielding attributes to be naturally infected with number of seedborne pathogens. Moreover, there are greater emphasis world over in production and distribution of pathogen free seeds and to manage seedborne pathogens, number of practices have been suggested. The objective of the present book is to serve as a source of information on different aspects of management of seedborne disease to graduate/post graduate students of plant pathology, seed technology, biological sciences, research scientists, seed certification, plant quarantine personnel and to all those involved in international seed trade for production and distribution of pathogen free seeds. The present book provides comprehensive information in the form of a text as well as a reference book on different aspects of management of seedborne diseases. These approaches include selection of seed production area, crop management practices, seed treatment methods mechanical, physical Chemical biological and organic nutrients seed certification plant quarantine disease resistance etc. (jacket).

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In the last three decades. use of antibiotics/drugs in animal husbandry programs has grown tremendously. Antibiotics/drugs are used therapeutically to cure diseases. and subtherapeutically to control the outbreak of diseases, improve feed efficiency and promote growth. The presence of antibiotic/drug residues in food products of animal origin. i.e -- meat, poultry and milk, can be a potential health hazard to consumers. Significant research is being done to develop new methods or to improve on existing methods to confirm and quantitatively determine the antibiotic/drug residues in meat, poultry and milk. This book covers recent development and application of various analytical techniques for the determination of antibiotic/drug residues in food products of animal origin. I thank the authors for their time and efforts in preparing the manuscripts and 'all the reviewers for reviewing the manuscripts. I also thank to the Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry of the American Chemical Society for sponsoring the symposium and Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, CA, Perkin Elmer Corp., Norwalk, CT, Millipore Corporation, Milford, MA, and Kraft General Foods, Glenview, IL, for their generous financial support for the symposium.
