In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). The second English translation of this revolutionary history of Sweden. A scarce work, translated from the French of the Abbot Vertat by J Mitchel. Illustrated, with a folding map. The Abbot Vertat as stated to this title page, is also known as the Abbot Vertot. Rene-Aubert Vertot was a French clergyman and historian. Vertot was a pupil of the Jesuit Fathers seminary at Rouen, which he left at the end of two years to enter the Capuchin Order. His first historical work was his 'Histoire de la Conjuration de Portugal'. As this work was received favourably he endeavored to write this work instead. 'Histoire des Revolutions de Suede was first published in 1695 and the first English translation appeared soon after. This is the second English edition of this work. Vertot also wrote a history on the History of the Knights Hospitallers. This work is complete, with a folding map of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Rebound in a half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Tidemark to the title page and to the first fifteen pages, only affecting the page edges. Pages are generally bright with just the odd spots. Very Good Indeed. book.
