Buch
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - For most of the 2nd World War the RAF flew small aircraft into Occupied France at night, landing and taking off in total secrecy. Their mission was to transport agents to and from France to support the activities of the French Resistance and SOE.The chronicle of these operations tells an extraordinary adventure story, full of danger for both agent and aviator, involving clandestine radios, secret messages transmitted by the BBC, and maquis volunteers keeping armed guard against interference from inquisitive enemy soldiers.Hugh Verity flew many of the missions recounted in this book and was probably the most outstanding pick-up pilot of them all.Researched with meticulous historical precision, We Landed By Moonlight describes operations which profoundly influenced the modern history of France, and, ultimately, of Britain as well. 272 pp. Englisch.

Hard Cover. FIRST THUS (revised) with DOUBLE ASSOCIATED SIGNATURES. Octavo, pp. 255, [1]. Numerous illustrations throughout text. Publishers' chocolate brown cloth with gilt titles to spine in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Very slight bruising to cover cloth at corners of lower board and at head of spine, otherwise clean and bright. Two printed pictorial Signature plates: that of Bob Large to front free endpaper (approx 13 cm x 9 cm) and that of Murray Anderson to half-title (approx 6 cm x 8 cm), both signed without dedication; prelims slightly rippled. Jacket very slightly creased top edge and faintly surface scuffed. A Near Fine copy in Very Good jacket. Hugh Verity was commander of the Lysanders, small aircraft which flew into France in secret to support the French Resistance and Special Operations Executive during the Second World War. For his bravery, the Author was awarded a double DSO and DFC, as well as Officier de la Legion d-Honneur and Croix de Guerre. Both signatories are mentioned extensively in the text, which was completely revised from the original 1978 edition to include new information on actual actions and identities together with a mass of recently revealed material. Flt. Lt. R.G. (Bob) Large was a Spitfire and Lysander pilot, who flew Violette Szabo, SOE operative and subject of the film "Carve Her Name With Pride" back to England following her first mission, while Murray Anderson was a Lysander pilot awarded DFC and bar in the Special Duties Squadron, and was the most successful pick-up pilot of 1944.
