In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: As New. 1st Edition. Contents: Foreword. Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Natural resources and agricultural productivity. 3. Natural resources management : Key issues and concerns. 4. Resource management technologies for sustaining productivity. 5. Integrated farming systems approach for sustaining agricultural productivity. 6. Conclusions. References. Annexure. Subject Index. Natural resources like land, water and biodiversity are the key to sustain agricultural productivity. Growing pressure of intensive agriculture and other non-farm enterprises on natural resources like soil and water is leading to their degradation, threatening the food security and ecosystem stability. A comprehensive understanding of the natural resources endowment of the country and its scientific management is a key to sustain agriculture and livestock productivity. This volume gives a comprehensive coverage of the status of natural resources and its efficient management its role in food production and meeting other needs like fodder, fuel wood, fibre, etc. The book has been prepared as a treatise with extensive illustrations and basic data with a national perspective. The unique features of the volume are the comprehensive coverage of the latest information from leading ICAR research Institutes and State Agricultural Universities of the country. The strategies for efficient management of soil fertility, conservation of soil and water, coping with climate on-farm water management in irrigated and rainfed production systems are covered in detail. The last chapter on integrated farming systems links the scientific utilization of natural resources to total farm productivity. The authors of the book are from leading institutes of the ICAR and are well known researchers in their field. It is hoped that this book will be useful to researchers, teachers, students, NGOs and all other readers interested to learn about natural resources management and its role in sustainable agriculture.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Sensor nodes' resources have been a primary concern in designing any wireless sensor network application, since they are limited and non-renewable. Most of the current efforts on sensor network research have limited their design space solely to the sensor nodes themselves. Under such an approach, the burden of achieving complex networking functions all rests upon the sensor nodes. Thus, the search for alternative resources got much attention in sensor networks. Base station is one such resource abundant and constraint-free network component in wireless sensor network. By exploring base station¿s capabilities, functional (communication) complexities in existing and upcoming algorithms can be simplified. A novel network design space proposed here to exploit edge-base-station capabilities to offer new possibilities to meet up-to-minute requirements. Based on this, a set of (unequal) clustering techniques have been proposed in this book. From the exhaustive experimental results are presented (for each proposal), it is noted that the proposed schemes overcome hot-spot problem with uniform energy dissipation among clusters and elevates network lifetime.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 160 pp. Englisch.

In den WarenkorbBuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Crops experience an assortment of environmental stresses which include abiotic viz., drought, water logging, salinity, extremes of temperature, high variability in radiation, subtle but perceptible changes in atmospheric gases and biotic viz., insects, birds, other pests, weeds, pathogens (viruses and other microbes). The ability to tolerate or adapt and overwinter by effectively countering these stresses is a very multifaceted phenomenon. In addition, the inability to do so which renders the crops susceptible is again the result of various exogenous and endogenous interactions in the ecosystem. Both biotic and abiotic stresses occur at various stages of plant development and frequently more than one stress concurrently affects the crop. Stresses result in both universal and definite effects on plant growth and development. One of the imposing tasks for the crop researchers globally is to distinguish and to diminish effects of these stress factors on the performance of crop plants, especially with respect to yield and quality of harvested products. This is of special significance in view of the impending climate change, with complex consequences for economically profitable and ecologically and environmentally sound global agriculture. The challenge at the hands of the crop scientist in such a scenario is to promote a competitive and multifunctional agriculture, leading to the production of highly nourishing, healthy and secure food and animal feed as well as raw materials for a wide variety of industrial applications. In order to successfully meet this challenge researchers have to understand the various aspects of these stresses in view of the current development from molecules to ecosystems. The book will focus on broad research areas in relation to these stresses which are in the forefront in contemporary crop stress research.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 628 pp. Englisch.
