References. Index. "From the Preface: The present book comprises all relevant particulars of butterfly genera occurring in India, Pakistan (including Indian areas in its occupation), Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Following information are provided for each genus, in a compact way : original reference where the genus was proposed, its subsequent synonyms, if any; common names applied to it; its type species; species occurring in the Indian region: endangered species/subspecies for conservation status; food plants of the larvae of species in that genus (if known); and brief account of distributional range and records of occurrence in the region and beyond. Selected taxonomic studies on the genus have been indicated in sporadic cases. A total of 427 genera are reported. Family Hesperiidae has been included in the present book in the style of other families, for the first time. Account of families Satyridae and Nymphalidae have been revised. References cited in the end, have been given in brief (without title of papers). An alphabetical index of all valid generic names, showing the page number in this book, has been given in the end. It is hoped that the consolidated account will be useful to students of taxonomic studies on Indian butterflies. Some colour illustrations of selected species are added to help the initial enthusiasts.".

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -This contributed volume explores the latest breakthroughs in genetic and genomic resources for enhancing biotic stress responses in grain legumes ¿ including minor ones. It covers the advances made to date, including gene identification, transcriptomics, proteomics, transgenics, genome editing, genomic selection, epigenetic breeding, and speed breeding related to different biotic stresses. Authored by crop-specific experts, the chapters in this book are essential resources for those directly involved in improving grain legume crops.Legumes play a vital role in ensuring food and nutritional security, enhancing soil quality, and promoting environmental sustainability. Rich in protein, they are essential in preventing hunger and malnutrition while adding to dietary diversity. However, as these crops are commonly grown in marginal lands with poor inputs, they are highly susceptible to biotic stresses such as diseases and pests, which can cause significant yield losses. This book consolidates all available knowledge about genetic and genomic aspects of biotic stress responses in various grain legumes. It is a must-have resource for all stakeholders involved in grain legume improvement. Whether you are a breeder, pathologist, biotechnologist, seed production specialist, market manager, graduate or post-graduate student, or any other industry professional, this book serves as an excellent guide to help you stay at the forefront of grain legume improvement.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 536 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Genomics research has great potential to revolutionize the discipline of plant breeding. This two-volume set provides a critical assessment of genomics tools and approaches for crop breeding. Volume 1, entitled 'Genomics Approaches and Platforms', illustrates state-of-the-art genomics approaches and platforms presently available for crop improvement. Volume 2, entitled 'Genomics Applications in Crops', compiles crop-specific studies that summarize both the achievements and limitations of genomics research for crop improvement. We hope that these two volumes, while providing new ideas and opportunities to those working in crop breeding, will help graduate students and teachers to develop a better understanding of the applications of crop genomics to plant research and breedingSpringer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 420 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Cereals make an important component of daily diet of a major section of human population, so that their survival mainly depends on the cereal grain production, which should match the burgeoning human population. Due to painstaking efforts of plant breeders and geneticists, at the global level, cereal production in the past witnessed a steady growth. However, the cereal production in the past has been achieved through the use of high yielding varieties, which have a heavy demand of inputs in the form of chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides/pesticides, leading to environmental degradation. In view of this, while increasing cereal production, one also needs to keep in mind that agronomic practices used for realizing high productivity do not adversely affect the environment. Improvement in cereal production in the past was also achieved through the use of alien genetic variation available in the wild relatives of these cereals, so that conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources is another important area, which is currently receiving the attention of plant breeders. The work leading to increased cereal production in the past received strong support from basic research on understanding the cereal genomes, which need to be manipulated to yield more from low inputs without any adverse effects as above. Through these basic studies, it also became fairly apparent that the genomes of all cereals are related and were derived from the same lineage, million of years ago.
